BYJU'S sponsorship deal specifics:

Oppo in March 2017 won the sponsorship rights for ₹1079 crores (base price ₹538 crore) for a period of 5 years ending on 31.03.22. This means approximately ₹4.61 crore per bilateral match and ₹1.56 crore per ICC event match. For comparison, the previous sponsor Star was paying approximately ₹1.92 per bilateral match and ₹0.61 crores per ICC event match. So one can conclude Oppo has acquired the rights at extravagant prices. This obviously became an issue for them. The company has stated that the ROI for this deal has been far lower than expected and the same has become unsustainable for them. Consequently they decided to withdraw from the deal.

Oppo then started looking for buyers in the market for the sponsorship deal. There was a clause in the agreement whereby Oppo could transfer the rights. Oppo and BYJU'S started negotiation for the same and the BCCI was intimated about the same . BCCI was however not a party to the negotiations. Oppo and BYJU'S then entered into a tripartite agreement with BCCI whereby BYJU'S would acquire the sponsorship rights for the leftover period of the existing deal. BCCI will continue to receive the same amount of money from BYJU'S as previously from Oppo. Oppo will may a minor cut to BYJU'S and BYJU'S will pay the entire amount due to BCCI. Its a win-win for all parties involved. Oppo gets to cut down its losses, BYJU'S get the sponsorship rights and BCCI will be at no loss rather they will receive additional 5% on the balance as a fee for reassignment of the rights.

Moreover, if BCCI were to put out a tender and then sell the rights, there was a possibility that there were to receive a smaller bid since the market is currently said to be soft and Oppo had bid for a amount far too higher previously.

There is no ambiguity that surrounds the deal. It is pretty much a fair deal. It would be very naive of you to link it to any conspiracy.
