A tip for memorising algorithms using colours!

Hi everyone! This lurker finally posts! But don’t comment on the Rubik’s cube, it was free :-P

I started learning about two weeks ago, and have been having trouble memorising algorithms. I’m not a genius like you all seem to be! :-)

I’d read many tips and posts, watched some videos, nothing quite resonated with me until I had this brainwave earlier today. I didn’t see this online anywhere, but I don’t claim originality, I simply want to share this tip that I have found works well for me, in hopes that other beginners may benefit too!

What I do if I’m having issues remembering, is colour code the turns (not related to the colours on your cube) so I remember tricky turns as the colour (pick any colours you wish). I have U as blue, and Ui as pink. If needed, as shown in my photo, take a marker or even nail polish, and you can mark your fingers to help remind you! I have blue marker on my left finger, and pink on my right (but its a really light pink, bit hard to see in the photo).

Just to explain the picture a bit more, it shows the start of the second algorithm on the sheet - turning ‘pink’ Ui, towards my marked-pink finger.

For anyone wondering, the sheet I’m looking at is just algorithims from YouCanDoTheCube’s beginners booklet that I printed, cut out, stuck all on one-page and then laminated :)
