Tips I've accumulated over the past week based on ethnicity [OC]

That's one study, and the person I replied to may have read one of the many studies that supports what they said.

But, per my comment you replied to:

And in the cases they're not explained by simple socioeconomics, they can usually be explained by .... some other unknown factor that isn't actually intrinsic racial differences

Per the article you linked:

In general, those differences center on the need to educate Blacks on the 15 to 20 percent tipping norm.

So even if the truth is that it's not explained by purely socioeconomic factors, my original comment called for looking at a multitude of factors, which the article you linked is supporting by basically summing it up as a cultural difference, at least as far as that article's abstract goes.

I don't enjoy thinking about why you would jump to the person I originally replied to just "making it up" instead of the much more logical answer, which is that that person most likely read something that supported their beliefs. It's pretty bad for discussion if your first instinct is to call someone a liar. I find that unsettling, and it gives me the first impression that you're not someone who can have a conversation based on facts instead of feelings and impulsive gut reactions.

On any topic, it's not that hard to find a scientifically done study that could support whichever "side" you're on, if you're the type of person looking to prove sides instead of looking for truth.
