Title card speculation/observation (FWWM spoilers)

Interesting observation! You may well be on to something. By this line of thinking, the electrical pole represents spirit, which passes between the Twin Peaks of good and evil, light and shadow. The pole is the means by which spirit descends up and down between Earth and the spirit world. As the Little Man From Another Place says, "From pure air...we have descended from pure air...going up and down. Intercourse between the two worlds."

I was talking with /u/LostInTheMovies about some of the references which Mark Frost used in writing some of the more esoteric aspects of the show, like the sections about the Lodges. LITM offered that electricity in FWWM is a metaphor for spirit, an invisible substance that spiritual energies are associated with, use as a conduit for travel and communication, etc. This idea came from one of Mark Frost's references - a 1926 book called The Devil's Guard by Talbot Mundy. Mundy is described as similar to Rudyard Kipling, but hopped-up on acid.

We KNOW they [Frost and Lynch] read (or at least skimmed) it because there are at least two Windom Earle speeches which repeat - verbatim - phrases from the book. He compares Dugpas to Kali-worshippers and says they "cultivate evil for the sake of evil."

Review of the book from Amazon:

There isn't much in this book that is strictly Twin Peaks, but some interesting points. In the book, The White Lodge is related to electricity as a metaphor. Like electricity was invisible until it was discovered, as is the White Lodge and it can be anywhere. Plus, the book makes a point the Black Lodge is easier to get into than the White Lodge. There is also talk about spirits who eat souls. I found the electricity stuff the most amusing since it plays a big role in Fire Walk With Me.

We may ask David Lynch if this was conscious on his part, and he may honestly answer no. However, he says so much of what he does is intuitive and not conscious. So something like this still has meaning though he may not have directly intended it.
