TiVo Study: Over 1.5 Million Cable Subscribers Plan To Cancel Cable And 38.1 million Cable Subscribers Are “Unsatisfied” With Their Service

First, if you're expecting traditional channels when you cut the cord you're going to be disappointed. You actually have to put in effort to find something to watch. Some people won't like that, but for my family it's never been a problem. And we've been exposed to some things that we'd never have found on traditional cable channels, especially some great foreign kids programming.

But, what you're missing is that, I like some shows on channels that I cannot get with cord cutting. Sure, there is new programming when you go over to Netflix and other streaming services, but I still want my shows that I enjoy currently. Now, I have to get Prime and other services to be able to buy seasons a la carte. If you have a lot of shows that are on a bunch of different networks that you aren't getting anymore all of those seasons you're buying are going to add up.

Second, your math is off. Most people would be getting broadband regardless of how they get video entertainment, so adding that $80 is inaccurate. And Amazon Prime is worth it for the two-day shipping. And Sling is really not necessary with USTVNow available.

Not true, there are a lot of people who don't care about fast internet. Second, my math is correct. If you reread $80 is the price for the television package in the bundle. $30 is for slower internet (6MB) and $20 for the landline which is needed for the net.

If you switch though to cord cutting 6MB is not really going to be enough with streaming services like Netflix or Sling. So now you go up another $20 or more per month for internet fast enough to be able to stream smoothly. Then you add the other costs to cord cutting like Netflix ($8 [if you didn't already have it]), the DVR guide ($5), Hulu ($Sling ($20), Amazon Prime ($8 + ~$30 per season per show)...etc. You could easily pay more than you currently do if you aren't careful and buy seasons a la carte. It adds up fast.
