It may be, in this particular case I think they are actually pretty socially conservative but want a better society for themselves. They just don't want to think about icky trans people or all the complicated questions that their existence brings up (like redefining men's/women's sports, and I was going to make a list but that's literally all I can think of).

But yeah they do think that the left is tripping over their own dick trying to respect people. The last time I really engaged with them on this kind of shit they were talking about how Dave Chappelle's anti-trans Netflix special made some really good points, especially when he said (and I'm paraphrasing heavily), "Black people have gotten fucked over for hundreds of years, but LGBT people have achieved equality in a couple decades and that's not fair." His conclusion was that LGBT people "owe" a few centuries of being oppressed and it's time for Black people to "ascend" to first-class citizen status. These guys I'm talking about, who said "he has a point there," are milquetoast white btw.
