Is today's generation as great as everyone thinks it is?

As a whole I don't think the wrestlers are any better today than they were in any previous generation. Now if you're talking WWE, yes, the in-ring work is better, but it's been that way since the influx of WCW talent over a decade ago. It's not noticeably better now than during those days when they had Mysterio, the Smackdown six, etc. It's just different because WWE is finally giving a shot to the workhorses out there. But those guys have always been around. It's just that WWE rarely gave a shit about them.

As for nearly everything else, it's much worse than in previous generations. Basic psychology is lost on all but a select few. Everyone tries to basically wrestle the same style, regardless of size or role on the roster. No one stands out. The crowd pops for the music and entrances way more than for the wrestlers themselves. In many cases, the wrestlers are secondary to watching a cool music and light show. Everyone tries to go out there and have a 20 minute clinic. And if you're a wrestling nerd that's the bee's knees, but to everyone else, who gives a shit? Talent means more than doing fake moves in a particular order so that Meltzer give you a good review. The tumbling routines are great, but the storytelling is dog shit most of the time. And that's mostly WWE management's fault, but it also falls on the wrestlers themselves. That's what happens when you have a generation of dorks who grew up jerking off to Shawn Michaels and the Super J Cup and try to emulate that every night.
