The token loot system is actually a great idea.

Back in D1 people were complaining about old content, not being relevant in later expansions. The token system will fix that!

So does infusion. You can do the raid, get a piece and infuse it up. There is nothing about this that makes tokens useful, outside of giving additional drops.

Thoughts?

The token system is actually fundamentally broken, similar to stockpiling engrams. Unless they make a change where tokens get reset, something that will discourage playing after you get what you want, players can hoard thousands of tokens and redeem them for the latest gear. Even if the latest gear doesn't increase light, if I want a new Fatebringer, I can constantly pump tokens into the vender of my choosing and try to get it, thus making it so you can blow through content.

In some ways I think this is Bungie's intent, as it caters to people with less time. If you play <10 hours a week, once you get the item you want and can hoard tokens, you can quickly redeem them during the next season and increase your odds of getting the next item you want. It won't always work, but you'll have a better chance if you can hoard 100 or more tokens now than having to restart after every season.
