I was on a the group of people selected to Beta Test COX Cable's Contour DVR. They called me out of the blue, offered to give me their new technology and free cable for a few months. So I signed up. Anyway, I took it seriously. I called them every two days with bugs and issues. The first night I had the thing I realized the engineers limited the amount of saved shows to twenty. So I called them and talked to three levels of support people until I got a guy that said he was in charge of the new box. Not sure if it was true or not but thats what he said. I told him my issue and he replied "Why would you want to watch more than twenty shows?" anyway they pushed an update the following day that fixed it. Overall, it was a cool experience and I contributed so much to their Beta test that they wrote me a check for $300.
