Too Many White Hip-Hop Fans Don't Give A Shit About Black People

I don't, or don't mean to, imply that it's an inherently authentic expression of a universal black experience. American HIp-Hop does provide the most authentic expression of the american black experience COMPARED to other genres though. Of course that doesn't have to mean much, but it'd be a bit foolish to say that it doesn't have a unique and significant role in providing insight.

But aside from that, I don't know if you've read my other comments but we're talking about racists, not your average cultured Joe. Most racists wouldn't be smart enough to identify the difference between a played up narrative and a real one. And again, the issue isn't that it's wrong for white people to listen to hip hop music. The issue is racist people being racist, with the added absurdity that lies in the hypocrisy of listening to a genre heavily associated with the very race you have problems with. If it was primarily fictional urban ghetto music, well then aside from production (which is only half maybe) there goes this genre's credibility as an art form.

Besides, just because there are a minority of people like Rick Ross who have a fake persona doesn't mean the genre loses it's social importance and impact. That's absurd to think of. If we operated on that thought no art or entertainment would have any significance. Kendrick Lamar is one of the biggest artists in not just hip-hop, but music in general. Representing Compton, dad's an ex gang banger, rapping about social ills, gang violence, drug useage, and prostitution. This is all you need to really see to know that legitimacy is so much larger than fiction. And in that case

White people who enjoy consuming those works of fiction have no more obligation towards the artists than to stand up for wizards rights because they read Harry Potter.

is more like

White people who enjoy listening to Rick Ross

Like yeah you could talk about Kanye West and Drake, but it's hardly a fabrication. Kanye lied about being poor growing up, doesn't detract from most any of his social commentary. As for Drake, when more than half of his catalog consists of, well, "Drake" songs, and you somehow get an any impression beyond him being a well-off, well-raised suburban kid, then you might as well be deaf or dumb.
