[Tool] 20 Crucial Pieces Of Life Advice, As Told By People Over 60.

  1. steve jobs disagrees. lots of people would agree that what jobs did, worked for him at least.
  2. "pack a bag and go wherever you can afford to go". great advice on saving money. especially when compounding interest favors the young the most by exponential growth. saving money when you're young is the best time to save.
  3. take life seriously. you only have one life to live. what you do now affects you when you're older.
  4. is this advice?
  5. people tell me their personal shit all the time. TMI. I'm a good listener though.
  6. Some of the most successful people are those kids that have worked hard when they were young, and did not play in the traditional way most other kids did. They had an interest and pursued it more seriously, and didn't give up when other kids did. Examples of this are in music (10k hours rule), computer science, math, art, etc...
  7. People do die wishing they weren't so friggin lazy, and they wish that every day from when they're born until they die.
  8. Take better care of yourself so you can live for a long ass time in a wheelchair and taking medicine for your arthritis, and live in pain. Arthritis is very genetics dependent. You can't exactly prevent that by living healthier, you just make the time you suffer for it longer.
  9. This really needs to be qualified. I see a lot of people doing yoga and meditation, and breathing exercises, and not really fixing their problems, and using their minds.
  10. Eating "healthy" is hugely dependent on your existing health and risk factors, and is different from most people. Look at your blood results and check your genetic ancestry for predisposition to heart disease, and weight. Some people can eat lots of red meat, and perhaps should more than the average if they live an athletic lifestyle, but that may not be recommended for someone with heart disease.
  11. I keep doing things and am not happy.
  12. This is the only one I agree with so far, because it applies 99% of the time and for 99% of the population.
  13. "Essentially, take your own advice is my advice…" I disagree. I think we should take head from others, but actually interpret what it means for us.
  14. The current fad of this generation is experiences. Endless experiences. Food, culture, destinations, etc... No home, no car, no stuff, minimalism. Travel can be expensive, and you don't always have a great time. A new computer costs the same amount as a plane ticket, but can provide 10x the practicality. This advice really only applies to those that spend too much of stuff they don't need.
  15. Yes, this advice would come from an old person. Basically all the extreme sports should be avoided in seriousness. You have to make sacrifices sometimes, even if it's your body. That's the cold hard truth.
  16. Call rather than text? I remember in the 90's when tv shows would make fun of teenage girls on the phone all the time. In the 50's and earlier, I'm sure girls were writing letters and rereading the ones they've received already all the time out of boredom.
  17. This is generally good advice, but there are certainly reasons for leveraging financially, if don't intelligently. This advice goes against borrowing for college, startups, travel, etc.. etc...sounds very contradictory.
  18. Heh, that's sad. Especially in today's age. Being more accepting of cheating is probably more realistic.
  19. Ok. This advice contradicts #1 in most cases.
  20. To a certain extent. Certain profiling in certain situations, environments, can save your life or save your time at the very least.
