Top schools without stress culture?

Check out Brown, Rice, Carleton, Haverford, Pomona, Bowdoin, Claremont McKenna, Stanford, Tufts, and Grinnell for a more laid-back/friendlier culture than their peer schools.

However, a fair warning- you cannot escape a rigorous workload with any top college. In order to prepare their students to be the "best and brightest" no matter where they go, these top colleges know they can't give a watered down education; furthermore, families wouldn't pay for such an education in a competitive industry. Some of these colleges and others are known for grade inflation. However, that is more a consequence of exceptional students working very hard to get their A's and not that the students are just being given them.

A small LAC or LAC like university (such as Yale) may be a good fit for you. You'll get the individualized focus, support systems throughout college, intimate residential community, and accessible faculty members which will help you in case you find the transition jarring and the experience overwhelming. However, some LACs such as Swarthmore and Reed are known for having a heavy stress-culture.
