Please be aware that not the act of torrenting in and of itself is illegal, but what is down-/uploaded/shared with it.

You can theoretically torrent how much you like with no issues as long as it´s not copyrighted material or similar. You made notes or write poems? Share them if you want.

On the flipside even if you get copyrighted material by other means than a torrent, it´s very likely illegal. The main difference would be in the scope in that case (like the difference between burning a handful of CDs/DVDs compared to offering a download to a basically unlimited number of people).

TLDR: Don´t get stuff you didn´t pay for no matter what means you use to do so.
