‘Toy Story 4’ Will Not Be a Direct Sequel to ‘Toy Story 3’

Well I don't. Every other movie they've released recently has seemed to have a lot more thought put into it. There are basic flaws in the film that are really inexcusable, and not seen in Tangled or Wreck-It-Ralph--both of which are also kids movies. I don't think just because it's a kids movie means they don't need to make it shitty. This isn't a Spy Kids. It's a major studio that takes their canon a little too fucking serious. In fact, Pixar and Disney pride themselves on making their films universally approachable so again, that doesn't really jive these days. Why not put less effort into all their films? Because hey--it's for kids!

First of all, I don't see how people aren't complaining about the animation. Obviously kids won't care because Frozen had all the bells and whistles of a Disney movie but adults and more "serious" filmgoers should be worried with what Frozen represented. The movie was seriously lazy with its modeling, textures, and rigging. The ball scene in particular stood out to me because of its really obvious and lazy re-use of assets, all of which looked plastic and really undeveloped. Even on Rapunzel and Flynn. It looked like the film was rushed--in which case I would'nt care so much. Tangled didn't have these issues. Everything was completely polished, animation-wise. You can't just handwave that away by saying it's a kids film. Disney's not some 3rd party studio. Disney Princesses are taken seriously because that's their bread and butter. It wasn't a throwaway cash-grab animation like Bolt or something. It's part of Disney canon and they kind of shit on audiences knowing we'd buy into a sloppily-made film because the very superficial elements are adorable. But in terms of plot, things were left unexplained, like how Else got her powers--and glossed over because hey--kids aren't going to look to hard. What were Elsa's motives beyond escaping her abusive parents? And why did she leave Arendel to be fucked over? That's not how these studios have really operated in the past so it doesn't make sense for them to allow an underdeveloped film like Frozen be released now. Idk. The concept of the film was thoughtful, fresh, and had the ingredients to be really polished but they dropped the ball. The film had pacing issues, the songs died out halfway into the film which doesn't really make sense for a MUSICAL? There was no real villain or conflict until the last like 15 minutes. The first song set the audience up for some real nordic-influenced musical numbers but then switched gears into pop--It's almost like a reverse Tangled and confuses what the film is trying to be. The trolls were just stupid and did not have a purpose but to force some expostion and make sense of Elsa's magic and undo Anna's curse. In terms of art direction they made NO sense being in the film. The sisterly-love part, which is what you keep talking about, was awesome, I agree. I love this influx of powerful female leads. But better than Brave? I disagree. And I don't think it's a bad film. I can understand it's disappointing but I don't see how it's bad. If you explained why I might agree.

But Frozen wasn't even the first feminist princess. Tiana and Merida were self-determining princesses before Elsa and Anna. It's not some landmark film. Besides the very main characters and sets, if you look around there's not a lot of effort placed in the film. The only thing I can say that's objectively false is that Frozen is visually-comparable to Wall-E. First of all, Pixar is pretty much king when it comes to animation. Say what you will about the story or premise or character-development of their films, but textures, rigging, modelling, animation are all completely polished. MU was visually beautiful. It's not lazy. They don't overlook certain elements because they won't be seen. And the world is populated with minute details that are barely seen but still ridiculously textured. Frozen blatantly did not feature this amount of work. And I don't know why because all other recent Disney Films have been comparable. But BH6 was great so I'm not too worried.
