Toys R Us is closing all of its stores. What memories do you have from there?

They were late to the market here-- I think I saw the first one in the '90s when I was already in my 20s and not really in the market for toys.

Before Toys 'R Us came to town, we had a similar store called Children's Palace, and before that, Toy City. Toys 'R Us came to town and promptly forced Children's Palace to shutter.

My only memory of Toys 'R Us is going in when I had kids of my own. The prices were crazy. We bought some sandbox sand and a Turtle sandbox to put it in. They kept the sand outside of the store, unattended.

When we went to load the sand, there were two guys already out there throwing bag after bag in to the back of their pickup truck. They nervously joked with us as they threw one last bag in the back and drove away. They were clearly stealing the shit.

So... that's my memory. Expensive merch and theft.
