Trading a pension for higher salary. Smart or dumb?

I meant more to say the deep south and I'm specifically just alluding to the general misalignment of my beliefs with those of LE at large. As a fellow dirty southerner I was born and raised here as well. It's a state retirement and all agencies within my state are the same. Moving out of state isn't an option with my family here. I got into the job at 22 and at the time 35k and a pension seemed like a damned good idea. I guess you must've had better forethought than me at 20.

Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of aspects of my work and I love a lot of the people I work with. I'm not leaving out of derision toward LE. I'm trying to provide better for my family while doing something that engages me more.
