'Trans people exist': Taoiseach backs the teaching of gender identity in schools

American and former Californian here. Transgender people in the US tend to congregate in states that are more open to them and have laws that protect their civil rights. It’s why you see more trans people in cities like New York, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. There is both safety in these incredibly liberal states and in the communities that already exist there.

I don’t know for sure, but I can also imagine that like gay and lesbian folks, it is easier to accept who you are and openly live that way when you’re in a more accepting community. So yes, there is probably a larger concentration of trans people in California and it’s due, largely, to the inclusiveness of the state’s policies and people.
