Transgender 14-year-old can proceed with hormone treatment despite father’s objections, Canadian court rules

I think you're missing one of the big issues of the article. That the child is holding a gun to their head and the court only allowed this to happen because of a threat of further self-harm. This is a child with a mental illness that is severe enough that it caused them to attempt suicide. If you think a 14 year old who's going through puberty and is severely depressed "knows" anything then you're ignorant as fuck. Their thinking is compromised and what they think they might want is not something they possibly should want. Not all teenagers who have body dysmorphia are transgender, this child could go through a transition and realize "Oh, I wasn't actually male, I just had the perception of flaws in my body". If my parents let me go through life altering changes to my body in my teenage years and I grew older and regretted that, I would hate my parents for what they did. The father has every right to object to this and he should object to this. You don't treat mental illness like this by giving in from threat of suicide. You seek actual help and therapy. Not life altering drugs.
