We are exactly where we were in Mac’s first two years: getting wrecked by Bama in the SECCG. The problems have flipped in that now we are all offense instead of no defense. And even though Mullen out recruits Mac on paper, Mac had a surprisingly high hit rate on his 3 star specials and Mullen has had substantial washout of 4 stars.

The assistant coaches are pretty much equally bad between both staffs. Grantham, Knox, English, and Hevesy are about as useless as some of Mac’s top assistants. Savage is better strength coach of course and Mullen himself is light years ahead of any of Mac’s offensive coaches.

The one thing I don’t think we will see is a total utter meltdown season under Mullen like we did with Mac because Mullen is a better coach.

But until we take the next step we aren’t really much ahead of where we were in 2015 or so.
