Eating less meat is the only viable solution to all of the societal problems caused by factory farming, including animal welfare, workers issues, and environmental problems, among other issues. Improving animal welfare on farms while keeping the number of animals on the farms the same would compound the environmental consequences of factory farming. For example, animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation. If animals were each given more space, yet the number of animals didn't decrease, farms would require to engage in deforestation at an even more alarming rate. As another example, grass-fed cows produce around four times more methane emissions than standard factory farmed cows.
