Traveling in Colombia

I'm a little older than you and have been visiting Medellin since my mid-20's. I actually enjoy Medellin more at 40+ than I did in my 20's (I preferred Bogota then and I still do, but Medellin is gradually moving up). Partly because it's changed a lot and wasn't that nice in the early 2000's, but it's also more quiet and mellow, not that I'm getting old or anything. If you look at expat/retired scene, Medellin is one of the hot spots (along with Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, etc..) for older people retiring but Bogota is not even on the map.

I don't what places you party at in Bogota or Medellin (there are lots of different scenes in both), but I find Bogota relatively unrivaled in South America (besides, of course, Rio) and I personally party harder there than almost anywhere else year after year after year. I've never quite found the same scene in Medellin but have been to just about all the hot spots

BTW I think there is a parallel between Bangkok (Bogota) vs Chiang Mai (Medellin). Chiang Mai is also very much favored by a lot of younger people (i.e. digital nomads) but it is most definitely NOT a place to party, it is one of the most quiet mellow cities in Asia, whereas OTOH Bangkok has some of the most legendary nightlife in the world. But relatively rare for people to retire to there, not AS popular as Chiang Mai is for younger people, it is big loud gritty city. So I don't really agree with the premise that the younger someone is the more they'll prefer the place with more party, I think in both of these cases young and old both prefer the mellower city. BTW I prefer Bangkok by lightyears..
