"Tri bi":bisexual, bipolar, biracial.

Wow, this actually is a real article.

I recently had an employee who was bipolar. He decided to stop taking his medication, went into a prolonged manic episode, started threatening other employees, and was arrested after breaking into a neighbors apartment with a gun and threatening to kill him and his family. He started calling the company and making bizarre threats of suing the owners and taking over the company and all kinds of weird stuff. It was very shocking and very sad and there was nothing that we could do to help him since employers are so limited in this type of situation, and since he’s a grown man with the right to take medication or not. Obviously we had to let him go. He was one of my favorite employees and unanimously regarded as a very nice guy. It was shocking.

People who are bipolar must be treated fairly and with respect, and there needs to be a lot more understanding and attention put towards this disorder. I am 100% on board with removing the stigma so that we can adequately help people like my former employee without making them feel ashamed. But to celebrate it as a positive thing, and as an identity, is absolutely not a good idea. This disorder absolutely must be treated as a serious medical/mental issue, or it will not be possible for the afflicted person to live even a normal life, let alone (hopefully) a happy one. In worst case scenarios, people can ruin families, careers and do harm to themselves or others. It’s not some sort of fucking hashtag; it’s lifetime of mental burden and complicated, sustained treatment.

What are we doing? It’s like we become more confused as a society every single day. People just don’t even care anymore about what things mean or how what they are saying affects real people. It’s getting harder and harder for rational voices to be heard.
