That was 4 months ago.. I understand processing takes time, but considering the seriousness of the situation she really should be trying harder to get her son back asap. If she explained the dangerous enviroment he's in would that not help expedite the process? If her MIL is blaming her for this, I have no doubt she is emotionally manipulating her son into believing she left him on purpose or some other toxic crap to turn him against his mother so he doesn't want to leave and stay with graaannnyy. I understand she has another baby now that is no doubt time consuming, I just hope OP realizes how serious it is she get her son out of that enviroment away from those ppl.
