Trigger Warning: Solo Female Travel to Morocco, Sexual Assault

I think because posts about highly negative and highly positive experiences tend to receive the most attention. I was almost scared off of going to Morocco a few years ago because of all the stories I heard here. I ended up going anyway, and spent several weeks traveling solo there.

I was followed once (the worst experience), had a few men try to kiss me, was proposed to twice (more funny than anything), and was hit on more times than I could possibly count. I luckily did not experience anything nearly as bad as what happened to OP.

I would still without a doubt recommend that solo female travelers go to Morocco. The pros far outweighed the cons for me. The caveat is that it's not for all women (or all people in general)--everyone has a different sense of the risks they're willing to take, and people are affected by things in different ways. For instance, I found the sexual harassment to be bothersome and sexist, but not particularly scary (except for the occasion I was followed). Other women might find it scary though.

It's important for people to be aware that really terrible things can and do happen to travelers in Morocco and elsewhere, but they should also be aware that everyone's experiences are different.
