I never understood comments like these given the west, especially the US, has it used its economic power to sanction and punish countries in pursuit its own political objectives to a far greater degree. The embargo in Cuba, for example, has been universally decried at the UN and is the most egregious form of economic warfare in the world. Where is the concern for human rights when Canada itself is complicit in the US-Saudi blockade, the worlds worst ongoing human rights catastrophe? Where was the concern for rule of law when Canada helped overthrow Haitis democratically elected government?

We just need to be honest. This is not about human rights or democracy or else we wouldn't be major allies with Saudi Arabia, where people are still getting beheaded. It's just mccarthyism and jingoism.
