It's true...

If you find yourself burned out on the endless shitstorm that is politics of late, I can't strongly enough recommend that you do what you have to to ensure a healthy state of mind. Ignore some subreddits, unfollow Twitter and Facebook people who post a lot of politics news. Do what you have to to stay happy.

BUT, there's a hefty caveat with that. As the other guy noted, suppressing young voter turnout is exactly the goal of what seems like a never-ending flow of enraging news. Casting a vote is the most important thing you can do, and you let them win if you shut down completely. You have to remain engaged enough to stay informed. Make sure you know when to vote, who to vote for, and where you stand on any issues on your ballot. Maybe follow debates and town halls on a surface level.

It's more important to stay sane and mentally healthy than it is to stay informed on every new controversy, scandal, and issue to arise. You'll hear about the things you need to know one way or another.
