The Trump administration withdrew the United States from an international effort to fight corruption on Thursday that targeted revenue from oil and natural gas extraction...global initiative that requires member nations to disclose their revenues from oil, gas, and mining assets.

All 3 of my lib-hating conservative acquaintances are loving how libs and dems (they probably don't know the whole words for liberal and democrat) are finally "losing" like they did when a black man "stole" presidency (because he's not American, remember?). I try to talk policy, I try to talk benefits, I try to talk human rights, but every single one of those conversations has just been above their head. Even worse, they don't try to understand. So when I simplify and tell them "this means you'll pay higher taxes" they literally say "good, as long as its not going to welfare"!!!!

People who are teetering the poverty line, mind you. People who could very easily enjoy a higher quality of life by having less pride and less racism ("I don't leech off the system like them").

The truth is that our country's public education system fails the people, and if you're not growing up in a large, transient, melting-pot city then you're much less likely to know anything outside of your all-white bumpkin town. I've driven from coast to coast, and holy shit was it depressing.

I shit you not, an older black man eating behind me at a Cracker Barrel had no shame speaking about how his grandson should strive to get educated "like a white" and he needs to stop fooling around with women and be a more godly man, how he needs to grow up, marry a woman, and make her subordinate to him as God intended. I didn't know God intended inequality, either on a racial or gender axis. But that kind of thinking is commonplace throughout the majority of the landmass of this country.

After that drive I've been reflecting a lot on the US, because I used to think we had more intelligent people than ignorant people. More compassionate people than we have racist people. But no. No we don't. Outside of pockets of well developed, mostly educated, and more-often compassionate people this country is 90% a regressive wasteland lead by the nose in whatever direction Fox and the Trump administration tell them to go.

TLDR? The conservative majority applaud administration decisions that are bad for them because it's not a black man in the White House.
