Trump blames shootings on video games, KIA leaps into action to defend.. Trump?

who gives a shit about video game journalism?

Like in general outside of gamergate there are reasonable concerns when it comes to malpractice in games journalism, a lot of which isnt really the traditional news article anymore. YouTubers and streamers failing to disclose that they were given copies or payed to promote a game has been a problem. There was a scandal with machinima not requering it's content creators to disclose they were payed to promote the Xbox one.

Game studios holding influence over reviews has also been a problem. Jeff Gerstmann was fired from Gamespot for writing a negative review about a game that was an ad sponsor on the site. Reviewers may feel pressured to write positive impressions of a game if they fear that the developer or publisher will stop supplying review copies after they give a negative impression.

On the other side of the coin, games journalism can also be really good and important to the games industry. Articles blowing the lid off crunch culture and toxic work environments at different companies have helped create a conversation about how we can fix the problems. I've found tons of games I love because someone writes an article or does a review of a smaller game I never heard of.

Again in not defending gamer gate here or saying videogames journalism is super duper important but there are reasonable conserns about various practices in the industry that can end up effecting consumers or enable shady developerals.
