Trump invokes Defense Production Act to stop export of masks

I mean, sure, if you think now's the fucking time to rework the whole production process. I'm sure this is an ideal moment for 3m and everybody else to stop producing 1.6 million masks a day (which is still only 1/6 of what we need), source new raw materials, and retool the line to use those materials. Also, I'm sure that other countries will be more than happy to ship us mass quantities of raw materials that can be used to make masks, while knowing that none of those masks will be offered in trade back to them.

Unless you're suggesting we make the pulp ourselves...which would be great, except we have nowhere near the ability to do that ourselves, and again, we don't have time to ramp it up.

No, this is so stupid there's no way to spin it.

Canada: Hey, we can supply you 100 percent of the material you need to make protective masks, because we know that in return, you'll be supplying us with some of those masks you make from our pulp.

US: Nah, how about we take the raw materials, make the masks, and then don't give you any.

Canada: Hey rest of the world, we've got a lot of pulp for making N95s, it's up for grabs as long as you send us a few of the masks you make with it.
