Did the Russians really think this would work? They are celebrating like somehow they won some political war, but in reality they have achieved nothing but getting the entire world raging angry with them.

Seriously, this is the political version of Pearl Harbor. They won a victory up front but have lost every political battle afterwards. And they've managed not just to upset a superpower, but get the entire free world angry at them.

Russia has done nothing but draw attention to themselves and make it worse than it already was for them.

It has failed miserably and will have consequences for decades to come. It has destroyed the little respect the world still had for them.
