Trump ‘Sad’ Over Removal of ‘Our Beautiful Statues’

As did Washington, that was really my point. I guess I'm just playing devils advocate here. The whole reason Lee has a lot of love in VA is because he was from here, and he fought for us. I'm not saying that means he wasn't a traitor to the US, he was. But he was loyal to Virginia, a place that is almost it's own, much like Texas. The Lees were just as influential as the Washingtons in the founding of Virginia, as well as this nation. More importantly, they built this all up one the backs of the enslaved who served them. I just find it to be hypocritical is all. I'm not a nazi sympathizer, but I am a Virginian. It horrified me what happened in Charlottesville, so close to home. But I find it interesting that the city's most famous resident was well known to be a white supremacist. He literally thought whites were superior to blacks, and these thoughts are well documented. Why not replace Lees statue with one of Sally Hemmings? Jefferson raped her for decades and she wasn't ever granted her "freedom", rather her niece (Jeffersons daughter) allowed her to liven with her children for the remainder of her life after his death.
