Trump supporters calling for violence and 'war' against the FBI could face criminal charges for their online vitriol, ex-law enforcement says

Legitimate threats certainly, but legally the scope of what is a threat is pretty small. Wishing or even advocating for a civil war isn't a crime. There needs to be specificity and readily actionable content to it. Certainly go after that one's that are clear crimes ,but I totally oppose the "pay the guy a visit for saying something mean" viewpoint in the article. In my experience, they do this because most people are super unaware of constitutional protections. Several years ago a had the ATF come to my house over a legal private gun sale. They wanted to take my statement on the record, have me look at photos and assured me "I did nothing wrong". They showed up at my house unannounced randomly. So I told them to leave and anything they needed would go through my lawyer. Shut my door and went back to playing video games. They hung around for about 10 minutes and left a note with their cards. Never heard from them again.

Don't talk to the police unless you have to.
