Trump threatens economic action if Venezuela creates Constituent Assembly

You do realize that Governments cannot run out of money, right? The U.S. for example has 'run out of money' by being in debt.

But a Government cannot become insolvent with respect to obligations in its own currency. A fiat money system … can produce such claims without limit.

Countries like Greece have not used their own currency in over a decade, that's why they are bankrupt.

All it will do is increase inflation to the point where the poorest suffer the most. It could end up that you require a truck full of money to simply by a loaf of bread.

But then the Government could just print larger denominations like they did in Zimbabwe.

You also need to consider that they now import most of their food, so to intentionally force them into a hyper state of inflation, more than it already is, will simply kill people before the Government ever gives up power.

As far as I am aware, Venezuela has paid all of its international commitments on time and in full. So it isn't even going to default on anything.
