Trying to access established network with Unifi Controller and AirOS.

Massive Update.

I am new to working with UniFi so maybe I am misunderstanding stuff, but the issues I am facing just do not make sense. The client needs this network rock solid by July 4th. Help Please!

The problems Randomly cannot connect to network from APs. Very slow with lots of latency and dropped packets. UniFi is very slow to show changed status of AP, often reporting wrong status. NW location not wired and randomly isolated. North location is always isolated. South location seems strong but all data fails. From office only 1 Nano shows up in discovery tool most of the time.

The setup 4 UniFi AP Outdoor devices with 3 NanoStation LocoM5 devices spread between 4 locations, using UniFi controller version 3.2.10. Office location has a tower on roof with AP Outdoor with cat5 to DSL modem/router and NanoStation on north end of building also with cat5 to DSL modem/router. It also has a disconnected Rocket M900 with Yagi and PowerBridge M5. North location about 400 feet north from Office location in a dip, line of site might be blocked by a small tree. 1 AP Outdoor with 1 NanoStation with a cat5 connecting LAN ports on POE injectors. NW location is about 800 feet from Office location and 400 feet northwest from North location, located on a hill with clear line of site to Office location. 1 AP Outdoor with 1 NanoStation with a cat5 connecting LAN ports on POE injectors. South location is 400 feet south of Office location, on flat land with clear line of sight to Office location. 1 AP Outdoor.

Steps Planned We have ordered 2 more AP Outdoor devices. One to replace the failed device and one as a backup. Switch NanoStations at North and NW locations to see if anything changes. Might order a new NanoStation to use for testing.

Questions Where are the changes in the UniFi controller stored after control is shut down? Are the settings to the APs stored if there is a site wide power loss? Do I need to have a device dedicated to running the UniFi controller on site 24/7? Can I force an AP to use a wire uplink instead of wireless? Can we/should we switch to the newest major release of the UniFi controller? Do you think we have more devices that are failing?

The story No one had a record of the admin passwords We were called because “nothing is working.” In order to check configuration we factory reset everything and upgraded all the AP Outdoor devices. At first we tried version 4.6.3 of the controller but it always hung on step 5 of setting up the first device. After a some time we discovered a bad cat5 cable and one bad AP Outdoor device both at the office location. We moved the AP from the South location to the office, which is the only one working ok, although latency is very high. The latency bounces from 100ms to 2000ms. Connecting to the modem via cable or it’s own wifi is solid and fast. While using the UniFi controller we get frequent disconnection messages forcing us to refresh the browser. After resetting all devices the AP at the North location shows as isolated regardless of what we do, and the NanoStation does not appear in the discovery tool. After sometime we decided to move the AP from the North location to the South location. Once moved, to the south location, it shows that it is connected via wire uplink, which there is none. Connecting to South location works but all data is lost. The NW location AP shows a strong wireless uplink to the Office location, instead of wired to the Nano. Also the Nano at the NW location is mostly MIA in the discovery tool. However we can consistently use the AirOS on the Nano at the NW location from our computer at the Office location. After sometime we decided to move the AP from the North location to the South location. Once moved, to the south location, it shows that it is connected via wire uplink, which there is none. Connecting to South location works but all data is lost.

Any and all suggestions will be considered. Thanks for reading this far!
