Tuesday Megathread 04/21/15 | Ask Your Game-Related Questions Here!

Most people don't talk much in dungeons, kind of sad but that's how it is. It's still polite to at least say "Hi" at the beginning and "Thanks and bye" at the end. And once in a while you'll run into someone more talkative.

As for whether they saw your messages, if you were talking in the standard "Say" mode then there's a chance they were too far away to read you. When you join a party you should get used to switching to the "Party" chat mode. You can do that by typing "/p" and pressing enter, or by pressing Alt+P (I think? My keybinds aren't default), or by clicking the speech bubble button to the left of the chatbar and selecting "Party".

The treasure chests are pure RNG, so there's no guarantee that what they drop will be of use to someone in the party.

When a piece of loot drops, people who can use it on their current class are allowed to roll Need, which gives them priority on the loot. People who can't use the lot can still roll Greed if they want it, but they'll only have a chance at it if no-one rolled Need. If several people rolled need or greed, the winner is determined at random with a fictional dice roll. You'll see something like this in your chat log:

Dude Guy rolls Greed on the Foestriker's Boots: 86.
Bikini Catgirl rolls Greed on the Foestriker's Boots: 35.
Clouddd Strif'e rolls Greed on the Foestriker's Boots: 58.
Dude Guy obtains the Foestriker's Boots.

In terms of etiquette dungeons are completely free for all. There's nothing wrong with Needing everything you can and Greeding everything else that interests you. Even if you can't use it right now it may come handy when you level another class.
