Turkish Officer in a gas mask during the air practice. WW2, Istanbul, Turkey, 1939 [1119x2007]

Well, I currently live in Turkey and I grew up in Russia and we have lot of mosques there too, I'm not saying that all mosques in Turkey are the same, just that there are distinct architecture types for mosques in different cultures. Like Tatar mosques in Russia are usually white + green or turquoise, sometimes with orange bricks and gold decorations thrown in, they often don't have round domes like Turkish mosques do and have a distinct Eastern European(ish) look them and look somewhat similar to Methodist or Russian Orthodox churches. Turkish mosques will often use same type of materials and colors for their exterior as Hagia Sophia and will have a similar vibe to them with numerous round domes and boxy extended areas at the bottom with many arcs, plus fairly motone paint schemes that avoid colors that are too bright. There are many obvious exceptions and it doesn't mean all Turkish mosques are the same, just that most of them have architecture and style clearly inspired by Hagia Sophia.
