(TW) Askwomen, apart from therapy/counselling, what are some ways to stop doing/thinking about self harm?

One thing to think about is that self harm is usually a coping/ avoidance method for negative feelings. So you can physically prevent yourself from cutting but unless you're dealing with the underlying issue of emotions you can't/ won't face you'll probably just pick up a different avoidance method.

The ultimate solution then is moving to a state of mental calm which can be a daunting task but is possible. I find establishing healthy habits (regular exercise that you enjoy, eating a nutritious diet, bonding with friends and family), practicing meditation and working to change anxious thought patterns to be extremely helpful here.

If that all sounds like a lot just take a deep breath and go slow. Make small goals, like maybe to start going for a walk three times a week, that you can achieve which will make you feel better about yourself and give you the self esteem to slowly make bigger changes.

Just remember that you have your whole life to grow and heal as a person, so be patient and give yourself credit for the work itself, not just the results. You've so got this :)
