Twelve Nobel laureates, thousands of academics sign protest of Trump immigration order

Thanks, I don't support the Trump ban, it is an absurd idea and as you said paints with a broad brush, for e.g. middle class Iranian immigrants do very well in most countries they immigrate to.
My main issue is that the pro-refugee side tend hold to incorrect views about human behaviour and demographics. The idea that you can convince an Afghan peasant not to hit his wife or children using an one hour integration class is incorrect, if you were to go to Afghanistan as a refugee and were taught in a similar class that a wife must obey their husband, you wouldn't start hitting your wife or raping her. The peasant's belief in honour and tradition is just as strong as your belief in individual freedom and dignity. People hold on to their cultures and it is extremely difficult to modify it in a significant way. The political left has an over optimistic view of human malleability. Another falsehood is that at-least their children would be integrated. This is again demonstrably false, people pass on their beliefs to their children, and children raised by these un-integrated individual grow up to be ill-equipped to deal with society. You can see evidence of this in the unemployment rates, crime rates, etc for second generation immigrants which are often only marginally better than their parents and sometimes worse. It must be understood that importing some types of migrants will lead to a mostly permanent, dependant, under-class which would be very difficult to repair.
Of course this isn't true for all immigrants, if one factors in socio-economic factors - religion, culture, income, etc then one finds that some immigrant groups do do very well, and sometimes even better than the native population. So the left also falsely paints with a broad brush and says that all immigrants bring value and that all diversity is strength.
