Twitch Plays Carbine Studios

FFXIV- I don't see anyone calling for a change in payment model here. They don't have quarterly updates. I can't say if it's more or less than others. The thing that really gets me when it comes to this game though is it's horrible optimization for PC. That's a personal issue though.

On a scale of 1 to Wildstar, FFXIV is about a 4. It's not even that badly optimized.

Also, nobody's asking for them to drop the subscription fee because unlike Carbine and Blizzard, SquareEnix are pushing regular major content updates.

ESO- a game that just went B2P. https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/store/product/eso_plus From what I see players can sub for a premium package which unlocks all the content while the sub is active like a normal mmo but now gives players cash shop currency and bonus "character progression". I don't know what the shop offers but I haven't seen any talk about it NOT being pay to win.

A lot of what's going to turn people away from ESO is the 80GB install size.

Guild Wars 2- They are a on a buy to play model with a cash shop that allows for in game currency to be converted to cash shop currency based upon supply and demand of the cash shop currency. What kind of content are they offering? Repetitive spvp and WvWvW. They also have fractals and some dungeons. They haven't produced any major content in a long time. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/ shows that while there is content it's very small bits at a time. I see one zone added near launch. For a game that has been out for three years there hasn't been much added.

Guild Wars 2, also known for having the worst PvM out of any MMORPG on the market. Yes, that even includes games like RuneScape which (while not having a holy trinity) at least makes PvM workable. Meanwhile Guild Wars 2 looks like ArenaNet took a regular WoW instance, removed any sort of threat and healing mechanics and told everyone to go fucking nuts.

It just doesn't work. And PvP (Both WvWvW and SPvP) is unrewarding, dull, zergy, and boring as shit too.

EVE Online- I have never played this game. I do know they are on a sub model with a CREDD-type system. They do have a store but it's under maintenence so I don't know if it's in-game or IRL merch. They do mention "near-monthly" updates but I don't see details on previous updates to say if they are large or not.

EVE Online isn't even a B2P game, and it's an entirely different beast of MMORPG. It's more like a mix between a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and a sci-fi MMO world.

And what about games which have flourished and succeeded after the publishers dropped the subscription model? (i.e. AION, Dungeons and Dragons Online, RIFT, etc.) RIFT especially is still going very strong and Trion Worlds have been releasing regular and constant updates for the title.
