Twitter user Arif_THFC met Toby and asked him if he was staying; “I don’t know man, I don’t know”

yeah I mentioned this in response to people making the argument of "well, if Toby isn't going to be here next year we might as well get used to playing with out him" that's come up a few times...I really don't understand that sort of thinking. It's uncommon for players to have their future up in the air until the summer, it's seems almost impossible to have an entire time completely locked down for upcoming season even in the biggest clubs in Europe. It's becoming a worrying pattern now that it's the second season in a row we've seen one of our best players frozen out of first choice in the most important time of the season (assuming this keeps playing out like Walker's situation did).

I mean on the one hand I'm kind of respect that the club demands full commitment and loyalty out of the players but on the other, i can't help but wonder why we don't adopt a more pragmatic approach given these sort of contract impasses will likely come up almost every year with at least one or two players as long as our current wage restrictions are in place. Maybe showing other players that no starting spot is guaranteed might really work as some sort of negotiation leverage I don't know, but I do know that based on the shift Toby put in yesterday we could've really used him against City and this weekend against United.
