Two standalone headsets confirmed at OC4

What we know about the Oculus Go:

  • very lightweight
  • utilizes a 1440p fast-switching LCD display that offers a significant improvement in subpixel fill factor to reduce the SDE
  • utilizes a newer more refined frensel optical solution that is superior to that used in the Rift, and that significantly reduces glare (God rays)
  • has integrated spatial audio
  • is binary compatible with the Gear VR platform
  • shares the same controller type and input set as the Gear VR platform

What we probably know about the Oculus Go:

  • it utilizes a Qualcomm SOC which, in a standalone context, will offer superior performance compared to the Gear VR platform (some perspective on why that can be the case here)
  • will be manufactured by Xiaomi who have a track record of producing decent products at very low prices
