Two teens assault an elderly Asian couple who are screaming for help in Tacoma Washington

I think that misses the point entirely. The point is that you can’t generalize or ascribe a certain intent or belief into an entire group of people based on the actions of an isolated few. That applies equally to police as it does to race. I don’t think that the career that people choose within the police department is one in which they desire to oppress black people. Rather, there are institutional and cultural elements within the police that lead to the injustices that we see. Of course, repeated injustices by the police warrants a deeper reflection of what those institutional cultural elements may be that causes these injustices to continue at such at high rate. That does not, however, mean that all police are bad. SIMILARLY, I do not think it is fair or right to dismiss these incidents by these perpetrators against Asians as purely isolated incidents without a similar deeper reflection on the cultural elements that may cause these repeated injustices to continue. People need to ask why this same scene of violence keeps playing over and over again. Why do so many young black kids think this type of racism is appropriate? Racism is rampant in the black community (as it is in the white community and even Asian community, but certainly not to this violent extent) and we can’t keep ignoring it. Cultural leaders need to speak up. Parents need to speak up. Friends need to speak up. This shit is getting old and is riddled with hypocrisy.
