Two weeks into my digital nomading in Mexico

On this sub, you probably are.

I can understand the "I'm so lonely in Asia" crowd who go over there, have no desire to learn any local language or culture, and for whatever reason install themselves in an ultra insular society where people who aren't born there will never be taken seriously or accepted, and they (as in local vs foreigner) look at each other like an alien species.

But those in Latin America, especially Americans who pretty much grow up around Spanish, they have no excuse for being lonely. Even in public schools we get Spanish classes since age 10, it's now part of American culture, many of the biggest music hits and most popular movies are in Spanish. Unlike most of the world, at least if you're white, black, indian or any mixture in between you're not going to be overtly discriminated against in the vast majority of Latin America, and social circles are very welcoming if you can hold a conversation in Spanish. That said I kind of have to laugh at this "go get drunk in an expat bar filled with other loners!" advice...
