Tyler, The Creator - Cherry Bomb: First Impressions

I think Cherry Bomb was a great album that was definitely showed Tyler's moments of brilliance, yet also had times where Tyler fell flat on his dick. One issue I had with the album was that my favorite songs were the ones that I heard before the album came out (Smuckers, Fucking Young, Deathcamp). Other than that, the other tracks that stood out to me were Find Your Wings, Pilot, and The Brown Stains of Darkeese Latifah Part 6-12 (Remix). Overall, I think Cherry Bomb was a step in the right direction for Tyler. He wasn't dark and hateful like his previous albums, but he still kept elements from his past, which is absolutely worth mentioning. I believe the message behind Cherry Bomb was brighter and more accessible than the dark undertones that were found on Bastard, Goblin, and Wolf, yet I'm still not totally sure on what the overall message or theme of the album was. This seems like the type of album that will take multiple listens to even scratch the surface regarding the message. However, the main event and surefire highlight of Cherry Bomb was the fact that the instrumentals were outstanding and usually outshined the lyrics throughout the majority of the album. Tyler definitely showed his talents as a producer on Cherry Bomb and it 100% made up for points where lyricism and rhymes were lacking. In conclusion, I believe that Cherry Bomb is a great album that puts Tyler's career in a very good spot and I can't wait to see where he progresses from here as he makes his run into becoming one of the all time greats at such an extremely young age. He is by far ahead of his years and his talent can certainly attest to that.
