Typical curve progression discussion

A regular dude who is a beginner (knows how the pieces move, primarily loses/wins games based on tactics, has a very basic positional understanding) who doesn't use any learning material to improve his understanding would have a learning curve that looks like this:

You start at whatever rating/playing strength you're at now, by playing you start to recognize/learn some tactical patterns and tactical motifs, your improved tactical sense will quickly improve your playing strength, then around 300 points or so later you will start to level off completely and won't improve anymore.
