I know literally nothing about the guy, but he has been a mod here for two years and has a few posts that have done well, including the occasional mod post.

The real question is: Do we have a moderation problem in this sub? Not really, no. We have only 7k users and only a few unique posts per day. Have there been issues with off-topic posts or people violating rules? Maybe, but I personally haven't seen any.

The ideal moderator is one who allows a subreddit to do whatever the users drive it to do as long as the rules are followed, and I don't think he's failing at that job. Moderators should only step in when necessary, not necessarily have a comment in every thread and post once a week.

The job of moderator should not come down to a popularity contest or which user is the most active in the sub, and moderators should not be threatened with removal unless they are not doing their jobs or they themselves are violating the rules. For all you know, this guy does all the CSS work on this sub or does other things behind the scenes.

Even if you think that any given user in this sub is a good fit for moderator, that doesn't have to come at the removal of any existing moderators. There is not limit to the number of moderators a sub can have.

Again, I'm not defending this guy as a moderator or anything, I don't know what he does here, but making a post calling for his removal with no real basis other than "I don't see him post here" is a little uncalled for.
