U.S. intelligence concludes Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi

What would be an ideal response to an ally nation that the US heavily relies on to get cheap oil when it conducts anti American value business ? If you ignore it, people will complain double standard. If you denounce it, people will say it's just for show. If you actually do something about it, people will complain about high oil price. If you stop weapon trades, arms deals won't be happy. If you just say fuck it, let's just break all ties, you would be concerned about Saudi forming alliance with rival nations.

Realistically, what can a president do to represent the good heart of American people while still enjoy the fruit of being complacent? On top of all that, you also need both parties to buy in this idea so that it's not just something you forget when a new election year comes? Is it really feasible? Has it ever been achieved in history?
