/u/sodiummuffin explains why Vice.com mischaracterised the statement of Richard Stallman, a known computer programmer

You clearly didn't read the referenced "best of", which says quite clearly

Lol this is the problem. You're choosing to believe reddit comments over actual news. In this case, like many cases, it's left you with an embarrassing lack of knowledge about what is actually going on.

Yes I read the reddit comment. I also read the emails Stallman sent and the relevant parts of the deposition against Maxwell. Stallman's claim that Minsky didn't actually have sex is only one of his arguments. His other arguments include that it wouldn't have been statutory rape in other districts because the victim was 17, and that it shouldn't be considered assault because the victim probably seemed "totally willing." Basically, if there was a way to minimize child rape, Stallman was doing it.

Even his claim that Minsky didn't have sex hinges on a line in the deposition that says ~"were you asked to have sex with Minsky" instead of "did you have sex with Minsky." I would agree that that's ambiguous, if it weren't that other questions in the deposition that more explicitly asked where and when they had sex. Of course, you wouldn't know about those questions if you only read the fucking reddit comment.

Do better.
