/u/StarkyA describes something sad about the much-maligned Star Wars prequel movies

Having seen the reaction he got when he turned out at the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, do people think that "public opinion" towards him by formerly hostile fans is softening?

There does seem to be more of an understanding on the part of fans that (a) for better or for worse, Star Wars is his baby (or at least was until he sold it to Disney!) and (b) the creative environment in which he operated when putting together the prequels, and how it differed from when he directed the first movie.

He does also seem to have bought some capitol among those fans who disliked The Force Awakens - something of a sense that it would have been a bit more Star Warsy had the third trilogy been left in his hands (though for my money, I quite like it).

After all, Revenge of the Sith came out in 2005 - it's been over ten years since the prequel trilogy was wrapped up. Within that time, has fan hostility towards him died down? Especially given that the usual geek shibboleths of Han having shot first etc. don't carry the weight they used to.
