Uber Is Pausing Autonomous Car Tests in All Cities After Fatality

My point is this is still a bad idea if your ultimate goal is to minimize traffic fatalities.

By temporarily firing robots and rehiring humans you are making the world LESS safe. Even if with all the bugs in the current self driving system it is way safer than humans. So temporarily suspending robot drivers you are making the roads LESS safe in the immediate future and probably slowly progress in the long term.

This is a sort of trolley problem. But in this problem the train is headed for the 1 person and you are saying we should flip the switch to save the 1 and hit the 5 people. When if we just did nothing maybe another person would died but over all less people would die.
